There is no universal timeline.

A mild sprain may improve within a few weeks, while ACL reconstruction or knee replacement surgery often requires several months of rehabilitation before strength, confidence, and function are fully restored.

Chronic knee pain may require additional patience because recovery involves addressing long-standing movement habits and rebuilding tolerance to activity.

It is often more useful to focus on milestones than on a calendar.

Questions that matter include:

  • Can the knee fully straighten?

  • Can you walk without limping?

  • Can you descend stairs with control?

  • Can you return to a specific activity without excessive symptoms the next day?


These functional markers usually provide more meaningful information than simply counting therapy sessions.
